FIFTH AVENUE THEATRE REPORT OF SHOW ... WEEK OF MAY 1, '11 THE DORLANS 9 Min. C D F Man and woman, comedy acrobats. Nice appearing people whose comedy is of the European order. The man's work on the style of the bounding Gordons is excellent. A very good act and good value for a moderate price. BENHAM & MOORE In 1 olio. Two men, piano and singing. Got by fairly well in an early spot but these piano acts are beginning to annoy our audiences and are not of much value in a big show. If the influx of rag time singers and effeminate piano players continues into vaudeville it is hard to see what will become of the sporting houses of the West. BUT & STAFFORD Sketch int. bathroom. This act arouses some laughs and while the people are artists of ability the sketch is too trival to incite much enthusiasm. ETHEL McDONOUGH Alias the diving myrma and the girl behind the drum. this act is new and shows it. It needs work and may develop into a good act. Miss McDounough is better as an instrumentalist than as a singer. She makes several changes and wears pretty costumes opening with a harem skirt closing in tights. We think it would be better if she forgot her old diving and eliminated the disrobing behind the transparency GENARO & BAILEY Op 1 Pal set Cl. 1 olio 15 This act which has not been seen in New York for some time was one of the genuine hits of the show. Their dancing is unique and classy and they never failed to get several recalls. OLD SOLDIER FIDDLERS Op in 2 & cl. 1 Another big hit here. The Old fashioned Fiddler's playing called forth much enthusiasm, while the old man who played the bones became a great favorite. The act is a big hit here and I believe has done considerable towards contributing to a good week. ROSE COGHLAN & CO/ C D F 20 Min. "A Wise Widow" A Sketch which is a condensation of Sardou's Scrap of Paper, employs a company of four, but without Miss Coghlan & her excellent company would not amount to much. Personally, we consider Miss Coghlan one of the greatest artists on the American stage and one whose work is always interesting, but we believe she might find a vehicle which should be a better one to display her talents. JACK WILSON & CO. St.. in 1 30 Min. There is little need of comment on this act which is always a big hit at the Fifth Avenue and the present engagement is no exception. He holds the stage for 30 min. closing the show with seldom a person walking out which is some feat here. His burlesque on the preceeding stage management develop into a desirable act. GEO LEONARD & MADGE PIERCE Singing dancing and talking sketch in 2 The scene represents a corridor in a New York hotel, the girl behind the newstand and the old sport somewhat on the style of Harry Gillfoil. The act contains singing dancing and talking and with some work might develop into an act. EDDIE DE NOYER & ROSE DANIE Singing and dancing in one. Miss Danie sings and dances prettily and presents a good appearance. Eddie De Noyer as a comedian is not very funny but he got by nicely with Sunday audience LOUIS COLEMAN & CO. In "Jule" Spec. set representing cave in the moonshiner's district of Kentucky. The act is rather conventional and old fashioned and is hardly suitable for a large time houses.
