C. E. BARNS. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. JUNE 12, 1911. PONGO & LEO. 9 min. F. S. This makes a corking good opener. One works straight, the other in "Chink" costume. Start off with some very good ground-tumbling and proceed to the trapeze and the revolving pole. Both of them are experts and do some thrilling feats which got good applause. Finished well. BRENT HAYES. 15 min. in one. This man caught the audience right from the first. He is simply the best one-man banjo act we have ever played, and he is not only an expert as a soloist with the orchestra, but alone can take two parts at once on the banjo, and deceive anybody that there are not at least two or more performers. Every one of the selections received big applause and closed strong with an encore. CROUCH & WELCH. 14 min. F.S., close in one. Second appearance. Plenty of nonsense and eccentric dancing that got the audience all the way through. Finish in one with the cross-stage dancing, which was certainly full of life and ginger. Held the spot in great shape. Got big applause. RICHARDS. 11 min. F.S. This man is one of the best impersonators we have ever had here. His work is expert and dainty, and I am sure that there were few in the audience who knew his sex until he took off his wig. The finish with the Loie Fuller dance with electrical effects, got a good hand. An A1 act of the kind all the way through. THURBER & MADISON. 17 min. in two, close in one. Miss Thurber works straight and Mr. Madison eccentric before a drop representing the exterior of a department store. Same act as presented here before with variations and plenty of burlesque on the department store counter clerk and shoppers. Act was well received, and the close in one was particularly strong. Got them good applause. IRENE FRANKLIN. 40 min. F.S. Mr. Green got a good hand when he came on, and Miss Franklin got an immense one, showing her popularity here. Gave several new songs, including "I Was Only a Girl at the Time" and "The Chambermaid" and one that never was heard here before, "I Wish I Was A Janitor's Child." They all went immensely and the audience simply would not let her go. Stopped the show and was finally compelled to give her famous "Red Head" song. There is no discounting the fact that Miss Franklin is one of the most versatile artists we have in vaudeville. After the hit this afternoon, there is no doubt of Miss Franklin's being the most talked-about star in the city. Closed immense. ALEXANDER & SCOTT. 14 min. in one. These people had an extremely hard spot following Franklin who did forty minutes. They opened only fairly well, but gathered strength as they went along, and the finish was satisfactory. HILL & SYLVIANY. 9 min. F. S. This is a good regulation bicycle act. Well known closing feature and received applause. KINETOGRAPH. "Scenes in Kwan-Tung, "China. A very good travel film. "Solving the Servant Girl Problem." An amusing comedy film. GEN. REMARKS. While the show around Franklin is not high [priced?], it gives good summer entertainment and seemed to fill the bill all right this afternoon. Music Hall Pawtucket R. I. 3 days June 8--9--10 Mr & Mrs Edward Cortes Sketch, comedy and pathos, rather quiet, too much talk, just went fair. 12 minutes. Ash & Carr Man and woman, singing, talking, dancing. Comedy fair. good comedy dancing finish. 12 minutes in one, went very well Belle Hathaways Monkeys All week, going good David R Buffinton
