HUDSON THEATRE, UNION HILL, N.J., JOHN C. PEEBLES. Week of September 4, 1911. BARTON & LIBBY, Comedy Cyclists. Two men, one working in tramp makeup, the other straight. Their routine is very entertaining and they started the show off in good shape. The comedian's methods are effective and he won many laughs. Made a splendid opening act. Garden in 4. Time 13 min. THREE METHVEN SISTERS. "A Trip Abroad." This is a very nice singing novelty and went very strong this afternoon with the holiday crowd, the closing number forcing the girls back for an encore. The girls look well from the front, have pleasing voices and their routine is away from the usual cut and dried singing acts. Could go a little further down in the bill and make good for any manager. Use three cut drops in 1, 2 and 2 1/2. Open and close 2 min in 1. 3 special drops. time 15 min. MIGONETTE KOKIN. Dancing novelty. Opened a little slow but got warmed up toward the finish and came across a winner. Her dancing impersonations of Fred Stone, Geneo and Bessie McCoy took her off at the finish to hearty applause. Olio in 1. Time 13 min. STALEY & BIRBECK'S Musical Blacksmiths. Two men, one woman, This is the old transformation act but as it has never been seen here before proved a sensation with the audience and when the change was made from the blacksmith shop to the parlor there was a murmur of surprise through the house that continued for several moments. The musical portion of the act was all that could be desired and the various selections were well applauded. Think this act will draw money to the house. Own set in 3. Time 11 min. HARRY VAN FOSSEN. The Blackface Wizard of Joy. this chap is a newcomer to the east and made more than good with the audience, especially the female portion. To me his work is much like that of Press Eldridge. He has a good routine of talk and ought to get over in this spot anywhere. Street in 1. time 18 min. EDGAR ATCHISON-ELY & CO., "Billy's Tombstones." Three men and two women in the act made familiar by Sidney Drew. Act certainly registered a big laughing hit here today. To me Ely is more acceptable in the part than Drew as he has youth and good appearance in his favor. He makes Billy a most amusing personality and has able support from Ruth Allen as his sister Alice, and from the other members of the company. There is no reason why this act should not prove a big comedy hit on any program. Act is finely staged and well played. Own set in 3. Time 24 min. MELVILLE AND HIGGINS. Just a riot. That's all. Street in 1. Time 20 min. POWER'S "BABY MINE." Hardly strong enough to hold this spot, judging from the afternoon performance but a good act for the youngsters and valuable for outdoor advertising. The elephant is very small and is worked by Power's daughter. An accident at the opening of the act today seemed to disconcert the elephant and she was listless in her work. Pl. Chamber in 3. Time 10 min. Bijou Theatre, Pawtucket, R. I. Week of Sept. 4-9 September 4, 5, 6. Tommy Hayes, Musical Trick Bone Soloist. Lillian Barent, Singing Act. Skelly Trio, Singing and Dancing. September 7, 8, 9. Will Adams, Ventriloquist. Kole Trio, Comedy Acrobats. Cecil Oterita, Singing Act.
