Report on PROVIDENCE SHOW, Week of September 11, 1911. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. The show played very well and we opened to very good business, but considering that we had a rainy day and with Houdini, it didn't seem to me, the house was quite as big as we should have had. However, Houdini is going to do a number of special things for us, including a jump from the top deck of a steam-boat tomorrow, so we may be able to keep up the old time interest. LA TOY BROS. Acrobatic comedy act. Went very well indeed. A good act for the spot. 10 Min. in three. CARROLL & COOKE These men did well; could have held a little bit better spot on the bill. Am inclined to think they get a little more salary than they are worth, considering even the salaries of today, but they are not as bad as I have been led to believe, by any means. The audience seemed to like them. 15 Min. in One. The MUSICAL LUNDTS This act is a little disappointing. Their brass playing is only fair. Xylophone playing probably better than any we have ever had, but xylophones are a thing of the past, to my mind, in vaudeville. The act did only moderately well. 25 Min. F. S. Can close in One. MARIE FENTON Miss Fenton did very nicely, but there seems to be something wrong with the business when we pay her as much money as we do Linden Beckwith, and a few others of the same type. Unquestionably, Miss Fenton gets too much money. 13 Min. in Two. Can work in One. DIAMOND & NELSON This act made a most unqualified hit. Diamond is a corking comedian and had the audience laughing every moment he was on the stage, while Miss Nelson is a splendid foil. Good value. 25 Min. in One. MRS. GENE HUGHES & CO. In "Youth." A sketch built on novel lines and which scored the same success here that has been attributed to it in other cities. 28 Min. F. S. STEPP, MEHLINGER & KING Well-known act, which is appearing here for the first time and made a tremendous hit. 17 Min. in One. HOUDINI Houdini is doing his escape from a tin-can filled with water and the can locked in a box. Also a strait-jacket escape. Several challenges are expected for the week. He has his old time enthusiasm, and seems to be desirous of doing all he can to boom business. Just how strong he will be, we can tell better by the end of the week. 25 Min. F. S. MOTION PICTURES O. K. Music Hall, Pawtucket, R. I. Week of Sept 14-15-16 Howe & Edwards. - man and woman. - Singing and Talking Sketch:- "The Arrival of Mr. Dooley" - 15 min - went poor - Brinkman & [???] Sisters - 2 women, 1 man - Character Singers and Dancers. - 15 min. - went fair only Margaret Bennett & Co. -- 2 women, 1 man. - Novelty Sketch "Borrowed Finery" - 20 min. - went good Florentine Singers: - Going great -
