TRENT THEATRE CRITICISM, WEEK OF OCTOBER 16, 1911 By J. F. Clancy. LA TOY BROTHERS Novelty acrobatic act; uses full stage. These boys do some very good work and they put it over in a manner that is different from most other offerings in their line. Makes a cracking good number with which to open the show. NEVIUS & ERWOOD Black-face comedy in "one," entitled "The Coal Man and the Maid." This act starts the show going in mighty good shape. While it drags a little at the beginning it more than makes up for this fault at the finish. Was a big hit at the matinee today. COL. SAM HOLDSWORTH A man eighty years old singing old-time songs. works all in "one." As a novelty Col. Sam is a very good one, his voice being a marvelous one considering his age. MRS. GENE HUGHES Mrs. Hughes presented here today for the first time her new comedy, "youth." Uses full stage, interior setting, and runs nearly thirty minutes. This is a mighty fine act, full of comedy of the most brilliant character. Went big at the opening show this afternoon. SIX MUSICAL SPILLERS Negro musicians; work in full stage. This organization does an act that is a little different from the stereotyped musical offering and went very big this afternoon. Owing to the fact that this act does considerable singing and are followed by Weston, Fields & Carroll, doing pretty much the same line of work we moved them up on the bill at the night show, exchanging places with Mrs. Hughes. WESTON, FIELDS & CARROLL Singing act in "one." These boys were a "clean-up" at the matinee today, duplicating their phenomenal success of last year. They did better for us this afternoon than a number of other acts getting half again their salary. FIVE PIROSCOFFIS Novelty juggling in full stage. A fine act with which to close the show, their juggling being of a unique brand - a kind not usually seen in acts of this character.
