HIPPODROME -CLEVELAND November 27, 1911. BOSTON NATIONAL MINSTRELS Special set - Full stage - Matinee 43 minutes - Evening 48 minutes. While all the criticisms on this act have been bad, I am glad to say we were very agreeably disappointed. The act carries a very pretty set and is as good a costume act as is usual with these kind of acts. You will note we have cut the act to 43 minutes, but at night it went so big and they had to repeat several numbers, which made it run 48 minutes. I can find no fault whatever with this act. To my mind, the Solo work and also that of the chorus is much better than I heard when witnessing George Evans' show. Every number they sang received hearty applause. The only poor thing that I really found in the act were the jokes, and if they would brighten themselves up a little bit on some new stuff, the act should make a hit anywhere. Received three curtain calls at finish. I would suggest in Theatres where they have a small orchestra, to add two or three pieces, as I think that the fact that our orchestra consists of 12 men helped the act greatly. Next Week IROQUOIS - SYRACUSE. Rita Gould This act was delayed owing to a wreck and did not arrive until 9 o'clock. She went on second last tonight and put an awful damper on the show. She may have been nervous, and as she had no rehearsal, it might have something to do with her going so bad. She sang four songs, and she was all out of key. Received no applause at finish. No doubt she will go better this afternoon in No 2 spot where she was originally billed. 10 minutes in one Next week - OPEN Jarrow - The Juggler Jarrow is doing the same act as when here before, which everybody knows. He managed to make good this afternoon and tonight, altho he has nothing new at all. 19 minutes in one. Next Week - TOLEDO P.S. This act is No. 4 instead of 3 Felix and Barry Girls - "The Boy Next Door" This act is the same as he has been doing for the last seven or eight years. The only thing missing is his wife. He went very good this afternoon and plenty of applause at finish. Full stage - 14 minutes - Close in one - 4 minutes Next week - OPEN P.S. This act is third instead of fourth. Roberty Trio, Presenting The Dances of The Folloies Bergere, Paris. Two young men and a very clever little woman. This is one of the best little dancing acts of its kind we have ever played here. They work in whirlwind fashion every number receiving hearty applause. Three curtain calls at finish. Should make good anywhere. 9 minutes - Full stage Next week PITTSBURGH Mr. John P. Wade & Company, Presenting "Marse Shelby's Chicken Dinner." This is one of those little Southern classic sketches written by Mr. Wade and to my mind it is one of the best little things we have had this season. It is full of heart interest all the way thru with plenty of good Comedy. Received four curtains at finish. You can make no mistake playing this act. Interior - 40 minutes Next week - OPEN Kate Elinor and Sam Williams - "The Human Billikens" The people are doing practically the same act done by the former Elinor sisters. Kate has a couple of new changes of costume. some of their stuff is new, but the biggest part is the same as we have heard before. While the act went very good, it was not the scream it has been on former visits. Finished very good though. 18 minutes in one. Next Week - MONTREAL Al Rayno's Bull Terriers - This act is practically the same as when seen here before. They didn't seem to work as well as when they played here last. One of his dogs was taken sick and if he had had any sense he wouldn't have tried to work him. He tried to do two or three tricks with him and he was so weak he could hardly walk. In fact he was so bad that the audience all knew that there was something wrong with him and I think that had something to do with the act going so bad. I have instructed him to leave this part of his act out until the dog is in condition to work. The finish of the act with the dogs jumping at the football went very good. Act is hardly strong enough to close the show. Special set - Full Stage. Eight minutes
