11 SCENIC TEMPLE Vaudeville and Motion Pictures EXEC. OFFICE: UNION THEATRE UNION STREET PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND MAIN STREET PHONE PAWTUCKET 356 Pawtucket, R. I., Report on acts playing The Scenic Temple, November 17-18-19, 1913 - Seen and reported by C L McNally- Silent Mora Magician, and sleight-of-hand artist, the greatest part of his act being of the latter - His work is very neat, and is well staged - 12 minutes in three - went fair at matinee, and also at night - A good act - Graig and Overholt - Man and woman - work in one - singing and dancing - Man is a good Buck and Wing dancer -0 Close with scarecrow dance together, woman being dressed in male attire also - Fair act - 14 minutes - Went fair at matinee, and good at night - Frances Stevens and Company - Two women and two men, presenting a comedy sketch - The idea is that the two principals have just been married, the same set being used for the bride's room and the bridegroom's room, a moveable sign over the door telling the audience when the action is taking place in one room, and when in the other - Many difficulties arise, and the sketch in general is very good, but it only goes fair, the audiences in this never liking sketches, unless they are exceptionally good - 18 minutes in C D F in full stage - The Mori Brothers - Three Japanese men, presenting a very good wire-walking and foot juggling act - One of the men is a very good wire-walker, and there is also a lot of good comedy in the act, and the audience woke up and laughed heartily at it - 16 minutes in the full stage - A very good act, and it was very well received at both the matinee and the evening performances - The Japs present a very neat appearance, and the act is a very pleasing one to see - Pawtucket, R. I., Report on acts playing The Scenic Temple, November 20, 21, 22, 1913 Seen and reported by C L McNally The Versatile Trio (I) "The Poker-Phiends", so-called because of a poker game in pantomime, in the middle of the act - The betting is done with plates, etc as chips,and with biscuits as cards - singing and eccentric dancing to open and close with - The pantomime was well done, but has been presented here before, and so does not receive as much applause as the bit calls for - close with sailor's hornpipe, well done by one member and the entire three - Good act, and fairly well received at the matinee, better at night - Zell Hunt (2) "The Deaf-Mute Who Learned To Talk" Works in C D F, with close in one - Opens with cartoon - proceeds to play piano, being guided only by his sight, as he can not hear at all - he also plays with the accompaniment of the orchestra, which is pretty good - He talks altogether too much, consuming 20 minutes in his act, while 16 would be almost too much - Fair - He would never get by except he played upon the sympathies of the audience, which he does - The Belles of Seville (3) 5 girls and 1 man - Singing and dancing, te latter being the Argentine Tango by the man and woman lead, a barefoot dance by the woman lead, a Spanish Dance by the other 4 girls, and closing with the barefoot dance by the woman, and A Harem Dance, in very pretty Harem atc, by all the girls - A very well-dressed act, but does not get the applause that it deserves,actually going poor Very good act
