II KELLY & JUDGE. 9 min. Loaned by the Bijou. The regulation knockabout act using table and chairs. One man working straight, the other clown comedy and closed fairly well today but would never do better than an opener for a big show. KINETOGRAPH. An unusually varied series. GENERAL REMARKS. This was a surprise afternoon. The management was surprised at a capacity house and a capacity house was surprised at a corking good show, although not at all the one programmed. The thanks of the management are due particularly to Jack Norworth, Friend & Lesser and Rooney & Bent who volunteered their services. The show as played this afternoon will play until our regulars get in from New York at which time a criticism of the show as booked will be sent on. CUTS FRIEND & LESSER. Expression "Well, I'll be damned." THE LEXLEYS. Modification of shoulder straps on dress. SUPPLEMENTARY CRITICISM PHILA. SHOW MARCH 3, 1914. WHEELER & WILSON. 14 min. in 1. Make comedy entrance with burlesque sewing machine. Girl pretty and good vocaliste and dancer. Man is as good an eccentric dancer as has been seen here in many a day. Held the spot A.1 and could go down further with credit. Closed well. HUSSEY & LEE. 17 min. in 1. One works straight, the other comedy chauffeur. A good line of material put over in fine shape. Kept the audience laughing all through their act and closed big. CLAUDE GILLINGWATER & CO. 34 min. F.S. "Wives of the Rich." Gillingwater's masterpiece without doubt, admirably written and brilliantly played by the author and a fine support. Held the audience in tensest interest throughout. Theme not new, being the story of the wife of a neglectful man of wealth who all but elopes with a pinter who makes illicit love to her - but all in a dream followed by an awakening that closes the act with considerable comedy and some very wholesome sentiment. A capital sketch in every particular. BELLE BAKER. 16 min. in one. Advance applause. Sang five splendid character songs, one of them in Italian costume. Every selection new and put over in a manner that meant a hit. Big applause and a fine closing hand after her encore. Held this hard spot in brilliant shape. FLYING MARTINS. 8 min. F. S. A thrilling and showman-like closing feature that got the big hand of applause as it well deserved. As skilful and brilliant trapeze work as was ever seen in vaudeville.
