B. F. KEITH'S HIPPODROME Week of May 4, 1914 Cleveland, Ohio ERNIE & ERNIE - - Man and woman. Place in 1. 12 minutes. Singing, dancing and high kicking and some hand balancing. The work of the man who has only one leg is exceptionally good. (Washington) CARTMELL & HARRIS - - Man and woman. Open Palace in 3. Close in 1. 14 minutes. Some singing and some very good classic and modern dancing. Closed strong. (Open) IMHOFF, CONN & COREENE - - 2 men, 1 woman. Special set in 3. 17 minutes. These people present a satire on army life with Roger Imhoff as usual in the comedy role. There was some laughter and some applause. (Indianapolis) JOSEPHINE DUNFEE - - Drop in one. 10 minutes. This woman has a very good voice and gowns herself very well, but she has a very bad selection of songs. However, she picked up toward the finish and closed to some applause. She should change all of her songs. (Syracuse) LOUIS MANN & CO - - C.D.F. in 3. 48 minutes. Mann's sketch is entitled "Elevating a Husband" It's boiled down from the play. I thought every theatre patron in the United States know Man or had heard of him, but when he made his entrance on Monday there was absolutely no applause, and no one recognized him. After the sketch got going, they seemed to realize that he was the fellow and then the going was not so hard. Mann used some hells and damns in his act and seemed to think that they were necessary. I do not think they are necessary in a comedy act. I did overlook a little swearing on the part of Frank Keenan, because I thought it was necessary for the proper finish of his act. However, I do not think that Mann and these other comedians should be allowed to get away with it. Also it's mighty hard to make a rule that applies to one act and not to another. There are 5 men and 3 women in Mann's act. It's a strong cast. Finished to big applause and thoroughly pleased. (Pittsburg) HENRY LEWIS - - Special plush drop in 2. 12 minutes. "A Vaudeville Cocktail". By sheer nerve and an original way of presenting ordinary material in the song, dance, monologue and recitation line, this performer succeeded in running the headliner a close race for popularity. (Pittsburg) ISHIKAWA JAPS - - Garden in 4. 4 cracker jack acrobats. About the fastest thing in this line outside of the Arabs that we have had in Cleveland this season. Finished to big applause. (Pittsburg) HEARST SELIG WEEKLY - - Monday was the first time we have shown the Hearst Selig Weekly pictures here. We have been running the Pathe Weekly but decided to make a change. The new pictures are as good if not better than those given us by the Pathe people.
