Week of November 20th '16 ----BOSTON SHOW---- R. G. Larsen CYCLING BRUNETTES 10 minutes of f.s. landscape. Two men, one comedy and one straight, in a clean, fast bicycle act. First-class opening act. LIBONATI 17 minutes in one. Olio Drop. Xylophonist. THis man works hard, has a good program, and puts it over. Went very well in this spot. ARTHUR McWATTERS and GRACE TYSON 17 minutes f.s. C.D.F. and plush special drapery. Doing the same old act, the only change being a couple of published songs that have been sung to death in this house. They did not arouse much enthusiasm until the final number, "What Will You Do?", which got over. JACK INGLIS and MARY READING 14 minutes in one. Garden Drop. Doing the same act that was formerly done by Inglis & Hawthorne. Miss Reading is not an improvement. Inglis is as funny as ever, and got quite a number of laughs. They both work hard every minute, and the act has lots of "pep", which is the saving feature. MRS. THOMAS WIFFEN and CO in "THE GOLDEN NIGHT" 20 minutes f.s. C.D.F. A comedy sketch built around the golden wedding celebration of an old couple, who manage to re-united their grand-children in the course of the evening, before a quarrel reaches the divorce court stage. A neat little turn and a good vehicle for Mrs. Whiffen. Held the interest and closed very well. WILL MORRISEY Annoyed at the Piano by Freddie Clinton. 23 minutes in one. Olio drop. Morrisey makes his entrance as a violinist, and after some "sour" harmony has been extracted from the instrument, he proceeds to put over a singing and comedy turn, with imitations, that was a hit at both performances Monday. We cut out nearly all of his jokes after the matinee. He proved he did not need this blue materi-al by going better at night than he did in the afternoon. EMMET DeVOY and CO in "The Call of Childhood." 24 minutes f.s. Special Set. Mr. Devoy's new act was a hit. Has a beautiful story, with four child characters, written about the spirit of Halloween, and Mr DeVoy, as "Adam Crabb," the old grouch, got many laughs. Hels the interest every minute, and closed strong. An act that will appeal particularly to women and children. The company is large, all capable, and the production thouroughly satisfactory. CARMELA and ROSA PONZILLO 18 minutes in one. Rotunda Drop. A very attractive offering in a singing act. They were the applause hit of the show. "THE FLYING TORPEDOES" Presented by the MIRANO BROTHERS 5 minutes f.s. Special Set. This is one of the biggest aerial novelties we have ever played. The men work at opposite ends of a revolving 20-foot steel cross bar, suspended at the top of a 30-foot steel structure, shaped to resemble the Eiffel Tower. One sits in a torpedo-shaped car, with propeller, while at the opposite end is a trapeze from which the other performs various stunts while the apparatus is revolting rapidly in midair. The act is backed by a cyclorama 90 feet long. The turn is very spectacular. ----CUTS---- McWatters and Tyson - "He's a devil in a taxi" and gag about "The chicken that laid the eggs?" "No, the chicken with the fancy legs." Will Morrisey - "Lord who, Lord Help Us" - "What the Hell is the matter?" - "Did you touch Florence?" answer "That's dirty;" - "God bless you" - "Gott in Himmel" - story about 17 men waiting for Frenchman to get through with ladder to peek into ---- lady's room - "Were you popular in Paris?" No, I was decent." Jack Inglis - bare legs on stage hand while dancing and effeminate business with tamborine on walk across stage. Cycling Brunettes - business of throwing broom into audience. ----COMMENT---- The last four acts on this bill are its saving feature. They made what promised to be a mediocre performance, a good show.
