REPORT ON PROVIDENCE SHOW, week of DECEMBER 11, 1916. CHARLES LOVENBERG, Manager. The bill this week plays very well indeed, although some of the most expensive acts do not do as well as the cheaper ones. However, as a whole it played out well, and we should have as good business as the season of the year warrants. Frank Shields Cowboy lariat thrower with a lot of new and thrilling material and some effective talk on the side. Very good act. 9 Minutes Full Stage. Gerard & Clark Man and woman. Good comedy act in which the woamn predominates. Made quite a hit. 19 Minutes In One. George M. Rosener Character sketches, very well presented, and made good thoroughly. 20 Minutes In One. Gibson & Guinan There is material here for a very good act. I don't think it is particularly well done, and the song they introduce In One at the finish of the act is not only superfluous but suggestive, and after two or three changes of lines, we practically eliminated the whole song. The act was fairly well received. 18 Minutes Opens Full Stage; Closes In One. The Leightons I can't for the life of me understand why so many people have said that this is a new act, or a better act than the one they did last season. As a matter of fact, it is exactly the same act with the change of a couple of songs and the introduction of a very short Hawaiian dance by one of the men, and the elimination of some good dancing by one of the three former members. I think the payment of an increase of salary to these people this year is one of the biggest impositions we have had. I am saying this in spite of the fact that it is a good act and was quite well received. 15 Minutes In One. Hermine Shone & Co. Another great possibility gone wrong both in the writing and playing. I don't mean to imply that it is not a good act - from the audience's standpoint - although a great many of them got nervous and "wiggly" after the thing was about half through. It plays up strong, however, at the finish with a strong appeal to Motherhood which gets a good hand. 30 Minutes Full Stage. Chas. (Chic) Sale Mr. Sale repeated his usual great success and went bigger here this time than he ever did before. 32 Minutes In One and One and A Half. Dupree & Dupree In a very beautiful, well executed bicycle act. 10 Minutes Full Stage. Motion Pictures O. K. CUTS Gerard & Clark Omit reference to lady's pantalettes. Cut words "Devil" and "Darn Fool" George Rosener Omit the various "Gods" and "Devils" Gibson & Guinan Cut scratching of leg by lady, and make complete change of final song. Hermine Shone & Co. Cut "Thank the Lord". Cover up more of the dressing and undressing scenes behind the coat and don't play up so strongly the buttoning up of the back and exposing of the back.
