REPORT on PROVIDENCE SHOW, Week of DECEMBER 25, 1916. CHARLES LOVENBERG, Manager. The bill as a whole is only fair and quite disappointing in spots. Thiessan's Dogs The kind of an act that people do not like because it smacks of cruelty; lifting the dogs by their hind legs, etc. If that part of the act was cut out, there would be nothing left. Besides, the dogs don't work well and seem to be very much afraid of the trainer. 11 Minutes Full Stage Minnie Allen Vaudeville seems to have passed Miss Allen. She went very badly indeed. 14 Minutes In One. Spencer Charters & Co. Fair little sketch but not good enough for the big-time. 16 Minutes Full Stage. Cole, Russell & Davis The show started at this point. This is a snappy talking act by two men and a woman, built on new lines, and the audience were quick to realize that "something was doing". 14 Minutes In One. Rudinoff Well known entertainer who drew his smoke pictures and did his whistling, and made the hit of the show. 22 Minutes Full Stage. Ashley & Allman This is a pretty good act - far from great - and they are not entitled to more than I am paying them here, although they are trying to get a big increase. 22 Minutes In One. Emmett DeVoy & Co. in "The Call of Childhood" A very good sketch, better played than the average in vaudeville. Pleased the audience highly. 23 Minutes Full Stage. Primrose Four Well known act which scored as usual. 19 Minutes In One. "General" Ed. Lavine Comedy juggler who held this spot satisfactorily. 10 Minutes In One. Motion Pictures O. K. CUTS Spencer Charters "Hope to God." Cole, Russell & Davis "Lord." Ashley & Allman "Devil." and joke "Is that my fault?" Emmett DeVoy joke about man not being eugenic.
