H.T.JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW JAN.1,1917. PATHE. A very good series for a holiday crowd. AUSTRALIAN CREIGHTONS. 8 min. A corking good act for an opener. The two boys are clever jugglers and acrobats, and have a showy line of tricks. The act was well liked. McSHANE & HATHAWAY. 13 min. Man and woman in a singing and dancing act which is just about fair. The woman gets some comedy out of a Charley Chaplin number. One double dance helps to hold the act up, but it finished very light. ROBERT T. HAINES & CO. "Enter, A Stranger." 16 min. A dramatic playlet with an unusual theme which kept the audience in doubt all the time. Being talky, it calls for clever handling and in this respect it is well done. There is an unexpected climax which the audience did not seem to catch the drift of and it was rather difficult to get a correct line on the sketch before a holiday crowd. EDWIN GEORGE. 17 min. His juggling and comedy talk was as big a hit as ever. The only change in his routine is the impromptu chatter and it is all handled to perfection. He scored a big hit. SMITH & AUSTIN. 16 min. Two men in a real "nut" act that is a routine of burlesque bits from start to finish. There is aplenty of action and much to laugh at. The house was in a roar most of the time. A girl is used for two song numbers and they finished to lots of applause. MERIAN'S SWISS CANINES. "The Territorials Quartered." 12 min. One of the very best animal novelties on the stage. The dogs go through their little play without help from any one on the stage and there is plenty natural comedy in the act. It was a big hit. EMMA CARUS. 27 min. So far as comedy and songs go, the act she is doing with Larry Comer is as good as anything she has done recently. They have some good songs and crossfire comedy chatter which is well handled, but the dancing is not as strong a feature as formerly. The act went well, finishing strong. HUSSEY & WORSLEY. "The Fox Hunters." 24 min. This is about the same act that Hussey did with Boyle, originally. The character comedy talk and songs are good for laughs and after holding the spot in good shape they finished strong. HOUDINI. 27 min. A holiday audience that packed the house found as much to interest them as ever in this act. He gets everything possible out of his tricks and held the entire house seated throughout his act. He was greeted with tremendous applause at the finish of the water-cell escape trick. GENERAL REMARKS. One of the best holiday bills we have ever had, with a strong headline feature surrounded with a show that pleased everyone.
