REPORT on PROVIDENCE SHOW, Week of JANUARY 8, 1917. CHARLES LOVENBERG, Manager. We have a very fine bill this week; so regarded by patrons, newspapers and myself. There is every indication that we should have a very big week's business. Five of Clubs Splendid club juggling act, presented in a very effective manner. 6 Minutes Full Stage. Hallen & Hunter Young lady with a violin and young man whose work is principally of monologue nature and who has undoubtedly studied the methods of James J. Morton very carefully, but he has some very bright talk and gets many laughs. Good act. 15 Minutes In One. De Pace Sextette Neopolitan and Operatic singing and mandolin and guitar playing. Company of four men and two women. Much better than the average act of this kind; after the elimination of the very bad comedy introduced by the mandolin player. 18 Minutes Opens Full Stage, can Close In One. Bob Albright Singer and story teller who repeated the success that has been attributed to him in other cities. My only objection to his act is that he strings it out a little too long. 23 Minutes In One. Arthur Sullivan with Ricca Scott In a little sketch called "A Drawing From Life" which is a ver apt title. I think this offering is a little gem and should rank as one of the classics of the times. Excellently played by Mr. Sullivan who is ably supported by Miss Scott. Ornament to any bill. 16 Minutes Full Stage. Donovan & Lee Miss Lee is the best partner that Donovan has ever had. She is a very attractive young woman who dresses well, sings fairly and works well in the dialogue with Donovan. A good deal of his comedy is old, but they got over all right. This act also is too long. 24 Minutes In One. The Night Boat This is the weakest act on the bill regardless of any qualifications. I do not want to infer that it is bad, but it should be entirely rewritten before being paid the money it is getting or being placed in the headline class. 24 Minutes Opens In One; Closes Full Stage. Leo Beers Mr. Beers has identically the same act he had when here before which undoubtedly is a handicap, although he is going fairly well. 18 Minutes In One. The Garden of Surprises Splendid ring act presented by Joe Fanton and two assistants, which is a fitting closing act to a very fine bill. 6 Minutes Full Stage. Motion Pictures O. K. CUTS De Pace Sextette Cut the comedy during the mandolin selection. It detracts from the act and takes away all its "class", while not getting anything in the way of laughs The Night Boat Cut words "Liar" and "Devil". Donovan & Lee Cut song "Knocked the L out of Kelley". All of your "Damns", "Hell", "Wop", "Guinea", and allusion to local saloons.
