REPORT OF SHOW PLAYING AT KEITH'S THEATRE PROVIDENCE WEEK OF OCTOBER 23, 1917. CHARLES LOVENBERG, Manager. We have an exceptionally good bill this week of which the audience showed great appreciation. PENN TRIO: Three young men who do some exceedingly clever work on paralell bars. The act is unusual in the circus line and made quite a hit. 7 minutes F.S. JOYCE, WEST & MORAN: Songs, piano playing and dancing of which the latter is the best. A good lively number two act. 13 minutes in one. VIOLET BESSON & CO: In "The High Cost of Living", a timely satire very well played. Got plenty of laughs. 13 minutes F.S. FOX & WARD: Black face comedians, very well received in Their old act. 15 minutes in one. AMELIA STONE & ARMAND KALISZ: In a little operetta "Mamzelle Caprice". Very dainty little offering with some tuneful melodies nicely rendered; decidedly well accepted by the audience. 20 minutes F.S. VAL & ERNIE STANTON: In decided contrast to the "nut" act which we played last week and which received about double these boys' salary and was complete failure, this act through its genuine comedy and clean methods made a most decided hit. More acts of this kind with the merit they possess and less playing up of alleged reputations will get vaudeville a great deal further, at least, as far as Providence is concerned, and from personal observation I feel confident the same thing would apply in many other cities. The Stantons are decidedly welcome as "nut" comedians. 14 minutes on one. THE MISSES LIGHTNER & NEWTON ALEXANDER: Well known comedy singing and dancing act. It scored here their usual big hit they make everywhere. 18 minutes in one. WINSTON'S WATER LIONS & DIVING NYMPHS: Unquestionably the greatest act of its kind ever presented in vaudeville. 15 minutes F.S.
