Taurasi, 101-02 Northern Blvd., Corona, New York. Domestic ed. 5c ea., 6 for 25c British ed. 6 issues for 1/-. Editor-in-Chief: James V. Taurasi Co-Editors: Ray Van Houten and Sam Moskowitz Associate Editor: Al Brown Assistant Editors: Alex Osheroff and Joe Kennedy Science Editor: Thomas S. Gardner Film Ed: D. Kishi - Art Ed: J. Giuanta "A Cosmic Publication" _______________________________ EDITORIAL CONVENTIONS AND HARD CASH by James V. Taurasi editor of Fantasy-Times We are glad to see the change made in the The Big Pond Fund as to what to do if Ted Carnell doesn’t come to the proposed 5th World Science Fiction Convention this Fall. The idea of giving the money to the 1948 Convention, if Carnell doesn’t come is a step forward in the policies of STF Fandom. True this money should be given to the next convention with the understanding that it is for The Big Pond Fund of 1948 only, and not for the general convention fund, BUT, there should be no strings attached such as the 1948 convention must retain Ackerman as Big Pond Fund chairman in order to get the money, or agreements in that line. Let the 1948 convention choose its own men and fix its own policies. If they want any person from the present convention committee to represent the 1948 convention it should be of their own choosing, and not dictated by anyone else. In future conventions it would not be a bad idea to carry on the ideals of Democracy and that the members of the Convention Society vote for any and all convention officers, or at least have a chance to vote approval or not of these officers. Fandom is supposed to have grown up, remember? This editorial is not to be taken as being against the present Philcon Society Officers or members. Fantasy-Times is backing the Philcon 100% and is in full accord with what they are doing. We are just printing this as our suggestions for bigger, better run and more enjoyable convention in the future. As a final word let’s not forget its New York in World Convention in 1949, the 10th Anniversary of the 1st World stf Convention. ____________________________ PHILCON NEWS (continued from page 57, column 1) [at] John W. Campbell isn’t sure whether he’ll be able to be at the Philcon or to not, but hopes he’ll be able to make it. Mary Gnaedinger writes, “I can’t say about attending the convention, but if possible, yes, we’ll get there.” She also states that she’ll contribute original illustrations from her magazine, Famous Fantastic Mysteries, to the convention auction. Palmer will not contribute original illustrations for the convention auction, as all Amazing-Fantastic originals are going to England for publication there. He will not attend the convention nor will anyone else from his office. The Philcon will be held on August 30, ’31 and Sept. 1. Any fan who wants to help the Convention should send $1.00 and become a member of The Philcon Society. Send the $1.00 to Milton A. Rothman, 211s N. Franklin St., Philadelphia 22, Penna. ____________________________ May 11 MEETING OF THE PSFS (continued from page 57, column 2) tion Society has voted to remove all copies of Amazing Stories from the bookcases in the clubroom.
