"A Great Mystery" or "Who Wrote It?" Existence for the human race Would be a lot more cheering If forces hurled from outer space Weren't always interfering. I just have learned the Milky Way Is found on cole inspection, To yank our poor old earth astray In this or that direction. and, though impossible it seems, The scientists assure us That soon we'll light our lamps from Proceeding from Arcturus. /beams The butt-in spheres that swarm the Forverer onward flitting, /skies Would, I insist, be far more wise To tend to their own knitting. We need a chance to show all space Our genius and ambition And do not want from any place Extraneous competition. We go our way; let them go theirs; we'll not be cowed or daunted; Let them retain their cosmic wares; Down here they are not wanted. They may possess extreme "kultur" But we're a trifle toppy. and their devices, we are sure, We'll never care to copy. They may be greater far than we And gleam with more resplendence, but never, never shall we be Another star's dependents. Though through the ether they may With wild and reckless dizzin-/reel Let them keep off our grass, /ess, And we'll attend to our own business. The "masterpiece" to your left is truly a mystery. I visited James V. Taurasi and he happened to mention that he had on hand a "poem" which he could not "se and would be glad to give me for FANTASEER I took it, but neither Taurasi nor T know who wrote it. Jimmy claims it came to him in a plain envelope with absolutely no identifying marks of any kind. If the writer will kindly send us his (or her) name we shall give credit where credit is due in the next FANTASEER. There are 65 copies of this issue being mimeographaed. He sure to save yours. Maybe you grand-children can sell it for 6c!!! THE FAN RAGS (sp) Every so often a nova burst on a surprised fan world. Such a surprise is PLUTO. Not only is it full to the brim with excellent material, but it has the most novel format in fandom today. We know you're subscribers will want us shot for this, but, frankly, your magis worth more than just a dime... Of the two issues of PLUTO we have received, that for July is best. There are thirty-two pages in 5 different colors, topped off with the last page carrying a detailed drawing that uses all five. I really don't see how you can do it. Your mimeogrph must be quite expensive to get such an accurate register... The columns in PLUTO are just andy. We suggest that you just change "Among the Hams & Pros" and leave out the Pros. Frankly, tho, we consider the Pros more like Hams than the Hams, if you can follow us!... Pluto is the magazine letter-writing fans dream of, with 7 full pages of letters in the July issue... damon knight (no capitals) contributes a very Gerty Steinish bit called "Gloobermory". We still don't know any more about the subject than before we read it... How about an article about what this Lit., SC., & Hobbies Cl.is /Q copy of the May NEW FANDOM which we got from Taurasi is at hand. This is certeinly a lot smaller than it once was. There is a rather wacky silk-screened cover in two colors. Looks like jitterbugs in that top left-hand corner. "A Critique os Science Fiction" is the most interesting part of this paper. We don't see where they get the nerve to ask one dollar a year for so small a journal... Gerry de la Ree favors us with the July 5th SUN SPOTS. The page 1 article on Nostradamus is interesting. The NY SUN has been giving his predictions frequent write-ups of late and we understand that a book is soon to be published and will carry some of his more important (turn page)
