26 ................. THE FANTASITE the humor. Your artists are good, Chapman turns out neat articles. Yours for more Fantasite. ((I take it you don't care for mimeo, Bob!)) 3209 Bancroft Hall, U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis,Md. d̲a̲m̲o̲n̲ ̲k̲n̲i̲g̲h̲t̲ Ah yes - #2 Fantasite. Cover 10, naturally. Frontispiece 6. Contents page 6. Fanta-Notes 4 (I dislike railing editorials, for some reason). Future of S-F 5. Who told Simak, quote, "Today few ray guns are packed," endquote, query?? Minneapolis Ftsy Society 6. ARGOSY fiction in '40 6. Thats on a Starry Night 7. It starts out lovely, but the rhythm breaks down in the ninth line. Dream Transcript 9. Try to get some more of wacky acky. Fantasips 8. "The Door" 7. Fantascripts 6. In a House by the Sea 7. 679 N. Cottage St., Salem, Oregon ̲G̲E̲R̲R̲Y̲ ̲D̲E̲ ̲L̲A̲ ̲R̲E̲E̲ #2 Fantasite arrived yesterday. Cover photo appreciated muchly. 'Twas swell. Inside cover—very good hektoing. Material was interesting; fan mag review too short; readers section swell length; and inside hektoing good on 80% of the pages. 9 Bogert Place, Westwood, N. J. FORREST J ACKERMAN The foto.of U fellows on your Feb 41 Fantasite sets Wright with your old friend Weaver. I'd like to meet U Minneapals, accent on the pals. U scarcely need me to say the mag is comin' long QX, both as a cluborgan & general fm, 'cause half the fans in fandom were telling U that lastime—& even more should be after the swell 2d number. Foto, Frontispiece, Fantanotea, all fine "The Future of Science Fiction" pict by local Joquel for condenst republication in the first ish of his FMZ Digest. ((5c from Arthur Louis Joquel, II, 1426 W. 38 St., Los Angeles, Cal,)) Russell, Warner, Bystander, Brazier, Bob Tucker — all good. Espeshly enjoyd "The Door" Again, congrats! 2361/2 N. New Hampshire, Hollywood, California. ̲J̲O̲S̲E̲P̲H̲ ̲G̲I̲L̲B̲E̲R̲T̲ It's a darn nice fanzine you have there, suh, Neat makeup, splendid hectoing, and a good lineup of interesting material. Particularly liked the photo on the front of tne mag. It's the concensus of opinion in the Columbia Camp that youse guys look like people we'd really like to know; haven't-seen such a swell gang of fans since I came into the field. ((Thank you, suh!)) The editorial was quite good, tho the second issue of the STaR ((The Southern Star, 10c from 3600 Grand St., Columbia, South Carolina)) will definitely prove that Yngvi is not a louse. Liked the frontispiece, and thoroly agree with Simak. As one of the most prominent figures in the swing from heavy science to characterization and human interest he should know whereof he speaks. Russell writes a mature, sane article, and Earner follows up with one of his better articles. I enjoyed both Knight amusing, and the article furnished me much-needed material for bright stuff, which has found a new home in ECLIPSE. So thank you! Ackerman way above par. Brazier's column probably the best of the new ones, tho it suffers badly from the worst fault of the recent fanzine columns — too much light fluffy stuff; no serious discussions, nothing to think over, nothing to remember. Donn should try to get a little thought-provoking material in with the entertaining, but inconsequential trivia. Tucker and I are hardly in accordance on "Three Came Back." I thought, personally, that it was about the silliest. most ridiculous tripe I'd ever read, excluding Captain Future, of course. Chauvenet good, but adjective-top-heavy, tho that was doubtless deliberate the story being simply an "idea" tale, with smooth writing unnecessary. Reader's section satisfactorily long, as such a section should be. All in all, it's a swell mag, and should be up in the top ranks with a few issues. The material is especially good in a new fanzine. Would suggest that you continue to use the type of material in this issue, in preference to the lighter type. 3600 Grand St., Columbia, South Carolina
