actors. Though the hektographing was, shall I say, par excellence, a couple of pages or so were rather bad. Fanta-Notes is a very nice editorial. I'm glad you explained the photo first of all. By the by, you're not the only one who mourns the loss of Pluto, "Fantasips" is a very excellent, interesting and informative little feature. Ackerman's article was positively insane. In other words, I thought 'twas swell. Why not have a back cover illustration, or even advertising on the back to fill up that blank space. By the by, I didn't like the pic on page 2. Anyway, I couldn't ask for a better issue. It fully deserves 10 points. R̲O̲B̲E̲R̲T̲ ̲A̲R̲T̲H̲U̲R̲ I'd like to see more issues of your very well gotten up and interesting mag. Not because I expect to read about myself some more, but because fantasy and science-fiction are one of my own main interests, and I like the program you've adopted for yourselves. Intelligent criticism, and plenty of it, is the most helpful thing you can give this field of writing. Any art or literary form is given direction and outline by competent criticism from critics who themselves are interested in its progress. I hope you will extend your pages of review and criticism to the fullest limit possible, and I hope other fanclubs will do the same. I'm looking forward to seeing your next issue and —lots of success! NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO DREAM (Another Sandmanuscript) by Ackerman [ED NOTE: Ackerman frequently uses his own method of spelling in this piece.] Had another dream, nonscientifictional. Just this morn, sometime during the last 40 mins bfor I got up. I noe, because I was awake & saw the clock at 7; went to sleep again & got up at 20 to 8. Tho in the lite of what I am about to relate it may be douted I was awake at 7! It seems that suddenly I found myself in the midst of a crowd of young people. Little Eunice, my childhood nextdoornabor, had just been marryd. About 8 people piled into a rather old, open-air sedan, Eunice in back with a bunch of others. Tho only room for me was on the running board, The scene shifted from LA to San Francisco as the car went speeding down an avenue I recognized as Ocean. But the driver chose to go down the sidewalk. "Watch out I don't get knockt off by one of the telefone poles.'" I yeld at him; adding "or even by a pedestrian, that'd be just as bad." Suddenly I was no longer on tho car but standing somewhere by a wooden rail, waiting for a streetcar to take me home (in Frisco). I lookt down at my lunchpail; it was gone, I took out my watch; 12:30. Then the thot struck me with a thud: "Good gosh! I'm due at the office at 9; Whatever made mo think I didn't have to be to work til one? How can I explain to the boss?" As I walkt into the office of the Associated Oil Co. (for which I actually work; bfor the Academy of Motion Pix)...I awoke, realized how impossible what I had been dreaming had been & was greatly relieved. But shortly I found myself in a jam just about as bad. Unfortunately I recall no details of it. But then I awoke—&, what a joke! I thot...here I had only d̲r̲e̲a̲m̲t̲ I woke up bfor! The joke was on me, tho, because a little later I REALLY woke up. At least, I t̲h̲i̲n̲k̲ I've been awake the past 12 hours. If U receive this,it proves I'm awake. But I̲ won't noe til the next Fantasite is out.
