THE GENTLEMAN HAS THE FLOOR (In hand are seven pages of comments on the NFFF from Joe Fortier in Cairo. Since we cannot publish it all, the Editor has had to take the liberty of selecting those sections which seem to him the most needful of consideration.) Whither the NFFF? Very recently in asking that question I made some remarks that were slightly condemnatory in outlook; possessing a nature as skeptic as it is optimistic, I feel that criticism is a healthy thing but naturally I feel too that some concrete suggestions for new paths are requisite.... Everyone seems to be groping around for an all-inclusive purpose to the NFFF, one that will reveal some almost mythical farsighted goal. I've give much thought to this seeming problem, once again coming to the solution that it is both impossible and senseless. However, I can and do offer what I believe is a material basis that will suffice for as long as will ever be necessary. The wording should run something as follows: "The _______, an organization formed by followers of fantasy fiction, will be run by the members according to the constitution to offer worthwhile service, such as could not be accomplished by an individual, to the members in the fields of fantasy and relevant subjects." That is not what I consider to be the best and final phrasing, but that is what I believe contains the basic right idea. Much idle chatter has been devoted to a new name. Admittedly there are at least three major difficulties to the present title: 1) It is unwieldy and unattractive. 2)...the federated concept has fallen through. 3) There need not be the slightest
