L E P R E C H A U N n u m b e r f o u r m a r c h, 1 9 4 5 To you, RWL, and to you, VKE, I can say: "You asked for it!" The rest of you will just have to take it and make some sort of an effort to conceal your dislike. If, of course, your dislike is too great to conceal, you are hereby given permission to take it out of the hides of: RWL and VKE -- be cause, you see, they're the ones who ganged up on me and told me I should really oughta bring out Leprechaun again. When I asked them what I should put in it, they didn't know. And furthermore, they didn't much care. They just reckoned it would be nice if I published Leprechaun, Caliban, and Banshee as a trio. "You see," said they, "the names of those three--Leprechaun, Banshee, and Caliban--sound so nice when you say them that way--Leprechaun, Banshee, and Caliban." (On second thought, maybe they said Leprechaun, Caliban, and Banshee. But you get the general idea.) So I thought and I thought, but all I could think of to do with Leprechaun if I revived it was to fill it with poetry. Which I have done. Obviously. Hi, Willie. Furthermore, I'm going to do it again in the future. And I'm going to make Leprechaun a vehicle entirely for poems I like. Or verse I like, if you want to be strict. To be completely honest, however, I must admit that I hope you like it a little bit too. Oh yes, one more thing: I don't claim to know anything at all about poetry. You have my sympathies. Naturally, this issue is dedicated to: RWL and VKE by L Tanglefoot Desiny A Destiny Publication
