12 L e p r e c h a u n JUDY ZISSMAN: Chunks of snow piled deep, Along the edges of the street; The light of one lonely Lamp, spread and respread only On the whitened ground, Glowing brightly on the browned Old stones behind it. A single tower rose high To the midnight sky, And reached up its frosty bars To a few bright stars. DAN ZISSMAN: * * * L u n a * * * We know right well those images Upon its surface are but scars Of battles older far than mankind Of battles with the force of meteor- shock Of battles with internal stress -- volcanic Marking into a familiar pattern And lending life to lifeless rock -- So that the moon becomes for us A potent power in overcoming distance. This much I know -- That where-e'er the tides of war may cast me up The moon I see will also shine for you, My dear, and give to us a contact That's ours alone.
