On the rainy morning of November 1, more than 100 persons - mostly students - gathered at the east entrance of the Iowa Memorial Union and stood shoulder - to - shoulder on the steps to prevent anyone from gaining entrance to the Business and Industrial Placement Office on the second floor, where Marine Corps recruiters had interviews with students. Some members of the crowd of bystanders attempted to gain entrance to the office by forcing their way through the demonstrators.
