White explained the use of the atomic energy materials in the scientific and medical fields, stating that the immediate formation of atomic energy plants at the present time would be practically impossible as there is no present knowledge of how to build them or control the energy that might be released. He decried American arrogance as being a barrier to world peace and said that world citizenship rather than a 3,000 foot deep bomb shelter would be the best protection from the bomb. Hammill told of the Baruch plan which would prvoide for international control of atomic energy materials. He stated that should it be necessary for the United States to scrap its atomic material scrap pile in order to achieve an understanding with other nations the move would still be advisable.
