Figure 12 THE LINES OF THE SUTTON HOO SHIP Installation: A verbal explication and visual recounting of this famous site. The verbal presentation consists of fragments of the original archaeological report, pertinent quotes from Beowulf regarding regalia and art objects of that period, and a free verse timeline text describing the assembling of these objects, their burial, their gradual disintegration, until the time of their discovery. The physical component of this piece would be A velvet crowd rope A braided sisal rope, same diameter as the velvet rope, suspended from the room's end walls in a downward arc and draped loosely onto the floor to conform to the shape of the middle length and curve of the ship's gunnel. Photomechanical transfers of the objects found at Sutton Hoo, placed in the center and behind this second "line" of sisal rope, and reflecting their original placement in the archeological site. Some of these photo-mechanical transfers would be slightly altered, some placed in drawings, some covered with stacks of irregular pieces of glass - some of these stacks of glass would include several flattened objects, others, a glass-framed drawing. The verbal parts of the piece would be projected onto the room's walls and floors and through the stacks of glass and objects by three slide projectors, the center projector showing text, the projectors on either side showing the "To-Re...." chorus (see attachment).
