{Drawing of man in uniform in front of mirror over dresser.} Course Composition Both the Army and Air Force courses for freshmen and sophomores consist of two hours of classroom instruction and one hour of leadership and drill per week. In addition to the basics of military training, both courses are designed to prepare students for entry into their respective advanced courses, and instruction is so oriented as to acquaint students with the basic operations and employment of each service. Both services have a local flight training program for seniors in the advanced course which qualifies the participants for a civilian pilot license. Choice of Service Entering freshmen are divided evenly between the Army and Air Force detachments. On the attached card (in the back of this booklet) please print your name and University number, check your choice of service, and, if you wish, indicate a reason for your choice. If possible, you will be placed in the unit of your choice. Veterans and transfer students who are not required and do not wish to take ROTC should not indicate choice of Air Force or Army ROTC, but state the reason for exemption and place a check in the space provided. If you are exempt by virtue of belonging to a reserve or National Guard unit, it will be necessary for you to see the administrative officer of the Military Department at Registration. After you have completed the card, please return it as indicated. ADVANCE UNIVERSITY MAILING Fraternities and Sororities The booklet Fraternities at Iowa contains general and specific information about fraternity living at SUI; the Panhellenic Handbook gives the same type of information about sorority living. If you indicated an interest in fraternities or sororities on your application for admission form, one of these publications, additional details regarding fraternities and sororities, and Rush Week participation materials will be or were 20
