Transfer students entering Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, or Dental Hygiene should check carefully with their advisers to be sure they select courses that will meet requirements for their degrees. THE SELECTION OF COURSES The typical freshman takes Communication Skills, Mathematics Skills, and Physical Education Skills - unless excused by superior performance in the placement tests or, in the case of Mathematics Skills, by having taken sufficient mathematics courses in high school. Students taking all three of the above courses (plus ROTC in the case of men students) usually take, in addition, one of the following combinations: two core courses, a core course and a foreign language, or a core course and an elective. If the student is excused from one or more of the above courses, he should choose his elective in the department in which he has some special interest. [hand drawing] COURSE SCHEDULE Using the back page of the Schedule of Courses, work out a "trial" program of studies that will be free of conflicts (check carefully). Once this has been done and you have conferred with your adviser, copy the course titles, department numbers, course numbers, and semester hours of credit on the registration materials themselves, but leave the section numbers blank until you complete registration at each departmental table in the Field House. You should, of course, have your preferred section numbers on your "trial" schedule on the back of the Schedule of Courses.)
