Item E. Academic Adviser Each new student admitted to the University is assigned an academic adviser. If you list a prospective "major" on your application form, we will assign you an adviser who specializes in advising students in this particular field. If you do not declare an academic major, you will be assigned a gen- eral academic adviser who works with students who, that the time of admis- sion, have not declared a specific major. When you do declare a specific major, you will be assigned an adviser in that field. Liberal Arts Students. If, after you have have received your admission letter, you should decide to major in a field other than the one indicated on your application, it will be necessary for you to visit the Liberal Arts Advisory Office (109 Schaeffer Hall) after Orientation. Changed in advisers cannot be made prior to registration. If you eventually intend to seek admission to the College of Business Administration, you, as a pre-business studen now enrolling in the College of Liberal Arts, may regard the Assistant Dean for students, College of Busi- ness Administration, Room 104, University Hall, as your adviser. Business Administration Students: All transfer students now being ad- mitted to the College of Business Administration may fine it advantageous to visit with the Assistant Dean for Student, College of Business Administra- tion, Room 104, University Hall, before undertaking the initial registrations at the University. A student should not contemplate this visit, however, until he has received his Admission Statement and Advanced Standing Re- port, which will be sent to him just prior to registration. Your adviser will meet with you prior to registration, at the time and place designated on you Admission Statement. He will help you prepare your schedule of courses and will work with you in regard to general and specific requirements in your major field. Item F. State University of Iowa Placement Test Scores (American College Tests) The results of your performance on the State University of Iowa Place- ment Tests (ACT) will be reported as percentiles on your Admission State- ment. You will notice that these scores are not the same as those reported to you by the American College Testing Program. The Act report was in terms of standard scores. In turn, you may have interpreted the scores in terms of national 12th grade population percentiles or national 12th grade college- bound percentiles. Scores reported on your Admission Statement are State University of Iowa percentile ranks. These percentile ranks are based on a comparison of your scores with other students who have completed the American College Tests and have attended the University. Consequently, since the latter group is more select one, your scores on your admission statement may be lower than previously interpreted. 19
