In the event a student receives hospitalization, services, or treatment in excess of that authorized by the Director of Student Health Service, he is personally responsible for the extra cost. This service is available only when the student is on the campus and treatment is authorized by the Student Health Service, It does not cover students while not on campus or during the summer when they are not enrolled. Religious Activities Robert S. Michaelsen, Director of School of Religion, Room 109, MH, Tel X. 2681 Most Iowa City churches have active student groups. In addition, there are a number of campus religious groups and foundation which provide opportunities for religious discussion and activities and for spiritual counsel. Each new student ins provided with a booklet, RELIGIOUS OPPORTUNITIES AT THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, which serves as a guide to the location, personnel , and activities of these various groups. The University works closely with the religious groups and foundations through the Office of Student Affairs and the School of Religion. A religious affairs counselor serves as liaison for this purpose and also advises the Inter Religious Council and is available to counsel students. The Danforth Chapel is open to any student for prayer and meditation, and, by appointment may be used by students for such activities as group worship, initiation ceremonies, and weddings. Placement Services When you complete your program in t he University and are "job hunting" the placement offices will be helpful to you. The Business and Industrial Placement Office is located in Room 109, University Hall, Tel X 2635 and is directed by Miss Helen Barnes. It serves all students who are seeking positions not in the teaching or educational fields. The Educational Placement Office, directed by Miss Ermina Busch and located in Room C 103 East Hall Tel X. 2175 assists students interested in teaching positions at all levels. Speech and Hearing Clinic James F. Curtis, Head of Speech Pathology and Audiology, Room E-13, EH, Tel. X 2583 Students who have a speech or hearing disability can seek assistance without charge in the Clinic located at E-13 East Hall. This service includes detailed examination consultations, individual conferences and drill and practice sessions. Reading Laboratory William Eller, Director of Reading Laboratory, Room W-418 EH Tel X. 2998 Any student who is a slow or poor reader does himself a real service by going to the Reading Laboratory located in the Old Armory Temporary, and arranging for special help. The Reading Laboratory provides facilities for diagnosing reading difficulties and for remedial measures. 55
