Closing Hours for Women's Residences Closing hours shall be defined as the LATEST hour for a student's return to her housing unit. It is expected that each student will plan her activities so that she returns to her housing unit BEFORE the closing hour. Since a student is expected to be in her housing unit BEFORE the closing hour, NO LATENESS will be permitted. ANY LATENESS which a student incurs will subject her to judiciary action. Such judiciary action may result in earlier closing hours for the student. IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY LATENESS, the student should notify her house director * as soon as possible. Regular closing hours begin Monday, September 2, 1963, and continue through Saturday June 6, 1964 11:00 p.m.- FRESHMEN - Sunday through Thursday, including examination and registration periods. 12:00 midnight - SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS AND SENIORS - Sunday through Thursday including examination and registration periods 1:00 a.m. - Friday and Saturday Hours during the summer session are 12:00 midnight and 1:00 a.m. Overnight Sign-Outs All sign outs are expected to conform with regular opening and closing hours. Unapproved overnight absences are cause for suspension from the University. A girl may sign out on weekends (Friday and Saturday nights) in accordance with the wishes of her parents as indicated on a special travel permit sent by the Associated Women Students and the Counselor to Women. Hotel or Motel Permission. A girl may secure permission to stay overnight in a hotel or motel ONLY when a letter of consent from her parents to the Counselor to Women giving full details for EACH special occasion has been received. Iowa City Permission. Sign-outs to private homes in Iowa City are discouraged; permission will be granted only at the discretion of the counselor or housemother Travel by Car. When traveling by car, a girl should make arrangements to leave Iowa City at an hour which will prevent late night driving and allow the student to arrive at her destination at a reasonable hour. The student must return to her housing unit by closing hours. Travel by Train or Bus. If a student is to return to her housing unit by train or bus later than regular closing hours, she must obtain special permission from the house director BEFORE leaving for the weekend. Overnight Guests. Local and out-of-town guests are permitted in residence halls or house ONLY ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY nights or the night preceding a University holiday. *House director is an all-inclusive term applying to (1) Residence Hall Counselor, (2) Housemother, or (3) Householder 78
