Quiet Hours and Hours for Guests These hours are listed in every residence hall, chapter house, and town house - please observe carefully. Women may be entertained in the public areas of men's residences ONLY when the housemother or other official chaperons are present. Women guests are not permitted in men's living quarters. For complete information regarding regulations, see Associated Women Students' Blue Book. STUDENT AUTOMOBILE REGISTRATION AND PARKING REGULATIONS The car registration and parking program at the University is designed to make use of available parking space in the best interest of the total University and to achieve as equitable an allocation as possible of parking privileges to students on the basis of residence in relation to distance from the campus. The parking system imposes an obligation upon faculty, staff, and students to know and observe automobile and parking regulations, and a system of fines is levied for violations. Automobiles are not a necessity at the University and students are urged not to bring cars to the campus. Those who do have cars will receive instructions regarding regulations when they register. Car Registration Every student who owns or operates an automobile within the Iowa City area must register the vehicle with the University during registration for classes or within forty-eight hours after bringing the automobile to Iowa City. A $3.00 annual registration fee is charged, or $1.50 for a semester and 75 cents for the summer session. At the time of registration, the student is given an identification decal which must be displayed according to instructions given. Parking Privileges Students who live outside the campus area, as defined by the University Parking Committee, may apply for parking privileges in lots designated for restricted parking. The charge is $9.00 annually or $4.50 by the semester and $2.25 for the summer session. Students living in University residence halls may apply through their housing units for a parking privilege in the residence parking areas, These are assigned on the basis of a priority system and the fee is $17.00 annually, or $8.50 by the semester and $4.25 for the summer session. In the University Married Student housing areas, parking space is provided for each residence and the student pays only the car registration fee. There are several unrestricted parking areas in outlying portions of the campus which can be used with the payment of parking fees. 79
