STUDENT SERVICES <<5 students. Students who wish to apply for loans of either type should obtain applications from the Financial Aids Office. Many students are employed on a part-time basis, both on and off campus. It is necessary for the student to know his class schedule before arranging for work, except in the case of board jobs or work at hours outside the regular class schedule. Students interested in discussing employment contact the Financial Aids Office to complete a job request form in the office Counseling Service The University provides a counseling service for students who may have problems of an educational, vocational, or personal nature. Professional counselors work with students experiencing difficulty in choosing a vocation or an academic major, whose study habits are ineffective, or who are experiencing personal adjustment difficulties. In their relationships with students, the counselors maintain a completely confidential service which is available to all University students without charge. The Counseling Service is located in W21 East Hall, and any student desiring an interview should call or go there to arrange an appointment. Student Health Service The doctors in Student Health Service assume the responsibilities of the family physician while the student is attending the University Full time physicians and nurses staff the outpatient service and an infirmary which accommodates students who are too ill to stay in their residences. If the Student Health physician feels that further consultation is necessary the student may be referred to specialist in the world-famous Iowa Medical Center, a major hospital and research complex which comprises an important part of The University of Iowa. Office Consultation: There is no charge for office consultation if rendered at the Student Health offices during office hours. Cost of drugs ordered by prescription is paid by the student, and charges are made for office service outside office hours. Student health office hours are from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 5 p.m. daily except Saturday (9 a.m to noon) and Sunday (10 a.m. to noon by appointment). A Student Health physician is on call twenty-four hours daily. Students who are ill and wish to contact the physician may do so by calling 338-0525 or from a University phone by dialing 172-13 and asking for the physician on call. Infirmary Care: The purpose of the Infirmary is to give nursing care and medical supervision to students who are ill and should not be left in their rooms, yet not ill enough to require the facilities of a hospital. There is no charge for Infirmary care. Hospitalization: The student hospitalization fund is provided by a portion of the student fees and is used to provide emergency hospital service for all students holding Identification Cards and current Certificates of Registration. The cost of student hospitalization will be payable first from any applicable insurance benefits before charges are made to the student hospitalization fund. Free emergency hospital service is provided only as authorized and certified by the Director of Student Health Service and within the following limits.
