Its facilties include public lounges, recreation areas, meeting rooms, a small auditorium, two ballrooms, and extensive dining facilities. The Iowa House provides guest room facilities for the convenience of campus visitors, especially parents of students and conference delegates. The Union is open daily to provide for the social and cultural needs of the entire campus. For over thirty years the Main Lounge of the Union has been used for cultural activities, such as concerts, lectures, discussions; for social events, such as dances and other entertainments; and for informal lounging. The Music Listening Rooms, Library, Craft Shop, and a succession of art exhibits help to satisfy the requirements of the campus population for a wide variety of interesting activities. The recreation area includes sixteen bowling lanes, nineteen billiard tables, table tennis facilities, and a variety of small table games. The Gold Feather Room is the social center for the campus, with grill and fountain to provide informal snacks or noon meals for students. The River Room Cafeteria offers full meal service for students, and the elegant State Room offers fine dining and a pleasant atmosphere. Arrangements may be made through the scheduling office for meetings and social events, as well as for private dining rooms and other food services. The information center near the South Lobby entrance provides information regarding campus and community events and services of the University, and it offers a modest selection of books, magazines, classroom supplies, and sundries for sale. Union Box Office - In the south entrance is located the box office at which tickets for all events sponsored by the University Cultural Events Committee, by the Union and Student Union Board, and by the Central Party and Entertainment Committee are sold or distributed. Other offices located in the Union include the Alumni Association and University of Iowa Foundation, Conferences and Institutes, Director of Student activities, and Business and Industrial Placement. Student Activities Center - The hub of organized student activity on the Iowa campus is the Student Activities Center, located in the Iowa Memorial Union. It is open every day and provides facilities and services to all recognized student organizations. Services include a work center with typewriters, duplicating and mimeographing equipment, desk and office space, meeting areas, work space, business telephones, and a receptionist and answering service for all organizations officed in the Center. "Instant Desks" are available for the use of campus organizations. A small rental fee is charged for office and desk space. Mailboxes are available for all organizations located in the Center, and recognized student organizations may purchase office supplies in the Activities Center. The Activites Center includes offices for major student organizations such as Student Senate, Associated Women Students, and Union Board, as well as offices for the staff members of the Union Program Department who serve as advisers to Union Board.
