Student Residence Where a student lives is very important to each individual, and the University believes there should be choice in types of housing. Therefore, it provides opportunity for accomodations in University residence halls, or in chapter houses for those who wish to accept membership in a fraternity or sorority, or in approved rooms in private homes in the community. The housing policy requires that all single undergraduate students under twenty one years of age must reside in quarters approved by the University, Students who are twenty one prior to or during the semester are not subject to this requirement. University approved housing includes: residence halls, men's and women's fraternity houses, approved rooming houses, and parental residences. Two things for students to keep in mind are (1) that contracts in University residence halls are binding for the entire school year (two semesters unless a student is entering for the second semester); and (2) students must report their correct residence and any subsequent changes so that the address in the Registrar's Office will be accurate and up to date at all times. Residence Halls The University provides boarding and non-boarding residences for men; all women's residences are boarding dormitories. Prospective students who apply for admission to the University receive a residence hall application blank with the application for admission. If this type of housing is desired, the application should be completed and returned. Applicants are advised to read the contract form carefully. The contract is finalized when the student is admitted by the Registrar and has paid his $50 advance payment. A notice of acceptance of contract is then mailed to the student and any cancellation must be requested in writing before June 1 for September enrollment; otherwise, the student is bound by the contract if he is in the University. Students who do not enroll and do not cancel before June 1 forefit the advance payment. Room assignments are made on a priority basis, first to students already living in the residence halls, with others being assigned by date of admission or by date of receipt of application and fee. Roommate requests are honored insofar as possible. Meal service hours are set up for the convenience of the students, and meal serving begins two days before classes start. Men's Residence Halls - There are three boarding dormitories for men: Hillcrest, Quadrangle and Rienow Hall; and room in South Quadrangle are available on either a boarding or non-boarding basis. Each residence has attractive lounges, study rooms, browsing libraries and laundry facilities, with coin-operated machines.
