WE SHUT IT DOWN! The students on this campus built a broadly based movement for a strike against the Indo-China War, political repression, racism, sexism, and R.O.T.C.. With so many academic departments and groups supporting the strike, Boyd was placed in the disconcerting position of having to deal with the demands.. His response was political and not determined by the needs of the people. Boyd created the false threat of violence and made it appear the major issue in order to avoid a confrontation with the people and a decision on the demands. Therefore he could say that all the students leaving the campus were concerned only with their safety and not concerned about returning to their hometowns to discuss the content of the demands of the people there. The striking students remaining will continue discussion of the issues by holding workshops on the Pentacrest and in the Union. The people do not have a vehicle to express their points of view and report the truth. Leona Durham, the editor-select of the Daily Iowan, and her DI staff were suspended because this was their intent. The Student Publications Inc. Board believed they would support the student strike rather than being a voice for the administration. THE PRESS BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE! BUILD THE STRIKE
