May 1970 AMERICAN FRIENDS SERVICE COMMITTEE North Central Region Eastern Iowa Area Office 311 North Linn, Iowa City, Iowa 52240 TO: Bob Engle DATE: 14 July 70 FROM: Tim Gardner SUBJECT: Enclosed report by Dick Taylor You might be interested in the enclosed open letter XXXX from Dick Taylor, which you may feel free to share, but since it is my only copy, I would appreciate receiving it again sometime in the future. I think his comments about "third party services" of monitors is well made. I am pessimistic about anyone's ability to perform as we did last May. Along with this goes an increasing disinterest to perform as we did. The longer the war in Asia, in the universities, the less inclined I am to play third force, in between. Much more important is to play third force, way out in front. Non-violent action then become a model for social change, no longer apass word. peace.
