Send your letters to Sweet Abbie, Iowa City Oppressed Citizen, P. O. Box 986, Ia. Abbie doesn't know a single stranger - just friends she hasn't met yet. High friendly freeks! Seein' how this is my first article in this newspaper all ya ain't had a chance to send me any letters - I'll just say somethin' that's been on my mind a bit. I really dig music an' think it's the greatest influence as a head and eye opener for people today. But I'd just like to caution some of you brothers an' sisters out there about bein' swallowed up by music. Some seem to live and breathe spending all their time in music, they get so wrapped up in it that they become apathetic toward most other things. There's a lot of shit that need to come down an' a lot of thinkin' an' learnin' an' gettin' it together that has to be done too. Music can tell us a lot if we listen to it. Shit, there ain't nothin' Dylan hasn't sung about. Our heads can really open up an' out through music. Music should be our philosophy- our human experience in gettin' it all back to the garden. PEOPLE!! .... music is so much less than YOU!!!!!!! in love an' peace abbie THE OASTRICH We'll call you when you're 6 years old AND drag you into the factory To train your brain for 18 years With promises of security. But then you're free And 40 years you waste to chase the $ sign Go you may die in Florida At the pleasant age of 69. The water's getting hard to drink We're all committing suicide But it's all right It's papa's faults you're pushing towards - your body rots. We'll strip the earth (no longer to) bleed and then divide her into parking lots But...There's...nothing you and I can do You and I are only two What's right and wrong is hard to say forget about it for today We'll stick our heads into the sand Just pretend that all is grand And hope that everything turns out OK. You're free to speak your mind my friend As long as you agree with me Don't criticize the fatherland Or those who shape your destiny Cause if you do - your lose your job, your mind, and all your friends you know We'll send out all our poison too. They'll find a way to silence you. - john kay -- PAGE 12
