April 17, 1970 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 2 Art Building Auditorium 1:30 p.m. "Political Problems of Environmental Regulations" by one of the First District Congressional candidates. 3:30 p.m. Place undetermined - "Cars and Their Effect on the Environment" by Barlane Eichbaum, Director of Research and Development of William Lear Enterprises, Frank B. O'Mara, Civil Engineering, and a representative from General Motors 225 Chemistry Building 7:00 p.m. "Role of the Law and Citizen in Protecting the Environment" by Lee Rogers, General Council for Environmental Defense 8:45 p.m. "Technology and human Respect" by Dr.Richard Watson, Department of Philosophy at Washington University, St. Louis Thursday, April 23 Student presentations - place and time undetermined Throughout the week beer cans, bottles, and paper will be collected and deposited at a booth located on the women's recreation field. SIGMA DELTA CHI BANQUET Sigma Delta Chi (professional journalistic society) will sponsor a banquet May 1 at the Carousel Restaurant. The banquet is in honor of Kenneth MacDonald, editor and publisher of the Des Moines Register and Tribune, who was named a Fellow Sigma Delta Chi at its national convention in San Diego. Clark Mollenhoff, special counsel to President Nixon, will speak a the banquet. Mollenhoff is a former Washington correspondent and Pulitzer Prize winner for the Register. A social hour is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. A press conference with Mollenhoff is at 6:00 p.m. and the banquet at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are $3.00 for students and $5.00 to the public and can be obtained in Room 117, Communications center. This article submitted by Tom Bross. DANGEROUS PARALLELLS... ..is the name of a simulation game which will be sponsored by the council on International Relations and United Nations Affairs. No prior experience or knowledge is required to participate in the game. Anyone interested can sign up in the CIRUNA Office, Activities Center, Iowa Memorial Union. Other CIRUNA activities coming soon are: April 15 - Great Decisions: "United States Defense Policy: The Pentagon and Its Critics - What Policies Should Prevail?" 8:00 p.m. in the Northwestern Room, Iowa Memorial Union. April 29 - Great Decisions: "Middle East: What Stakes for the Great Powers in the Arab-Israeli Conflict?" 8:00 p.m. - Northwestern Room, Iowa Memorial Union. "SALESMAN" WILL PLAY HERE "Salesman," a controversial documentary feature,w ill play April 20-22 in the New Ballroom. Monday ,the film will be shown at 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. "Salesman" won three Academy Award nominations. The film can be best described as a cinematic mural of America's lower middle class Catholic-oriented landscape. "Salesman" has received overwhelming acclaim from New York critics and audiences. It's power and message has been praised by authors Arthur Miller, Truman Capote, and Norman Mailer. Ray Kril, film area advisor of the Union Board, recommends "Salesman" as a movie that should be seen.
