JOHN GIUNTA SCIENTI-TALES PAGE 6 CHAPTER THREE# THE INVISIBLE MASTER Now let us be taken to another scene where an interesting incident is occuring. It is somewhere between the Moon and Mars. A giant paceship called The Beautiful is cruising along at a moderate speed, headed for the Martian Capital "ANKORA". Inside in a vault room a tense scene is being enacted. Not only tense, but weird. For, four men facing no one in particular are holding their hands up. The Captain, the guard, a Martian Ambassador and the vault man. The Captain's muscles bridged his jaw as he watched in helplessness. A large rounded trunk, containing somewhat over a million in Martian Gold was lifting itself off the floor. Staying suspended for awhile nothing noticeable happened. Then without reason or rhym, it started to vanish. Little by little, from one end to the other, until it had completely disappeared. One would not have thought that a minute ago there had stood five similar trunks. Each containing a little over a million, not only in gold but jewels, sapphires and Radium. Suddenly the Captain spoke, his eyes facing a blank wall. "You do not think you can get away with it! The Space Patrol will be after your hide!" A laugh boomed through the room. And not one of the four men had opened his mouth. And as soon as it had started the laugh died away. Then a taunting, victorious voice filled the room, and still not a man had spoken. "The Space Patrol you say? Haa! A fine police force I'll say. My dear captain you underestimate me. Doyou think I would take a chance, no matter how small, of my plans going amiss? Oh no! I do not fear your Space Patrol. But!, as I said I do not take chances." "Vert do you mean?" interrupted the Martian. "What do I mean? Haaaaa...! My concrete fellowmen, your Space Patrol is now on a beautiful, wild goose chase. Yes a wild goose chase to our ringed neighbor Saturn." "WHAT?!" Gasped the four men incrediously. "Yes to Saturn. On an S.O.S. from me. I am sorry now gentlemen, for I will have to leave you. So!! Goodbye till another time." As the voiced ceased, a silence filled the room. The four waited expectantly for something to happen. But still they were startled as a small card hove into veiw from nowhere, and a voice spoke. "Pardon me gentlemen, I forgot to leave my calling card!" and with that it floated slowly to the floor, keeping the gaze of fascinated men. They swung around as they heard a rasping noise behind them, to see the airlock closing swiftly. "Well that's that!" spoke the Captain, "A clean getaway. By a man so clever as to be able to render himself invisible. And also to have the secret of an anti-gravity machine." "Yeh, and the Space Patrol beaten before it even got started." broke in the guard. "A thuiting name," lisped the Martian Yan-Te, as he held the card he had picked up from the floor. "a thuiting name indeed! THE INVISIBLE MASTER." The Captain looked at him. "THE INVISIBLE MASTER, eh? What chance has the Space Patrol against him?" ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: A week later a weary Space Patrol reported to their cheif. As they learned the facts from the cheif, a large, heavily built man with a bristling mustache protruding from under his nose. Captain John Hawk smiled bitterly.
