disconnected style is a bit hard to follow. Laney makes some pointed & justified remarks on the classics of literature. Mesle makes a devastating crack about fan discussions in general & hits uncomfortably close to home... Another good Buck Rogerish cover by Joe Gibson. #46 features Tuckepner collaborating on a long letter, getting in some good digs about the state of the union, race-hatred, etc. Bloch puns. Elsner exhumes that old bugaboo, fanomenclature. Joe Gibson is developing a really readable style. His time in combat has brot him a cynical awareness & a sharp hardness of thot which should be useful in pro writing. I think he would make a good stf author. In #47 the ed asks advice about rejecting "poison pen" letters to Vom. Old-timer Reinsberg reminisces. Speer takes up two-&-ahalf pp defending the "American Way" which makes the issue a success e'en tho I disagree with him on several points. Willmorth makes a plea for more maturity in Vom, & I say "amen", altho I must admit that the last few issues have improved. Tigrina reviews a book. Mesle reiterates the old idea that the supernatural & occult are but facets of the natural not understood asyet. Sneary makes a bid to fill to shoes of Ludowitz & Schmarje, but I like him much more. Laney defends his instability & inadequacy. However, I can't blame him. In spite of an innate cheerfulness & optimist I often find myself in his situation. I applaud his defense of jazz, but refuse to accept his condemnation of the classics are a corollary. Gibson has an idea in comparing fen to the monks & "thinkers" of the Dark Ages. Altho the last days of the Roman Empire is a better chronanalogy. ------------------------ We hope a few neophytes feel their interest aroused. ----------------------- SECRETARY'S SECTION No new members.
