NATIONAL FANTASY FAN. _____________________________ May 22, 1946 Dear NFFFer: A crisis has come in the NFFF turn of events - our Official Editor has been ill most of the spring and this continued illness has forced him to tender his resignation. The matter of a successor is before the Board of Directors now. Meanwhile some sort of message must go out to you members to let you know that your organization is still functioning in spite of these delays. Included with this letter you will find a supplementary card for additional Laureate Awards. Please fill this out, sign it and mail at once. Although the cards are printed with a deadline of June 1st, because of the delay in sending them to you that deadline has been extended to July 1st. An Economy Committee has been appointed to check on all possible methods for economizing so that we can have funds to have available for some other purpose than publishing the 00. Last year each member’s dues went for operating expenses of the organization. We want our organization to do something besides publish a fan magazine and in order to do so we must have funds. This we hope to accomplish without raising the dues. Charles Tanner, our former Official Editor, and Harry Warner, Chairman of the Board of Directors, were the two selected for the job. Charlie was appointed because he has control of the 00, which is our largest single expenditure. Harry Warner was appointed because, as Chairman of the Board, he controls (with your President) the purse strings of the organization. Dale Tarr has been appointed Chairman of a Membership drive. This drive is to supplement the work of the Welcom Committee. He will announce his plans later. The formation of a Nominating Committee has been authorized and I’ll name someone for this post in the near future. The purpose of this committee is to assure several worthwhile candidates and a full slate of competent candidates. It will in no way hamper the filing of anyone who cares to run for any office and will not constitute a separate endorsement for those chosen by the committee. Authorization for the formation of a committee to assist E.E. Evans, N.F.F.F. liason officei to the Pacificon, in case he desires aid has been made. The N.F.F.F. Archives have been placed in the capable hands of Forrest J Ackerman and, according to Directorial Order, left to his descretion as to whether or not they should become a part of the Science Fiction Foundation and just what should be included in the Archives. Anyone having things for the Archives contact Ackerman before sending them.
