[Image of a spaceman shooting a gun.] EDITORIAL By EDITOR: John M. Cunningham Many fanzines have come and gone -- but always has remained the dominating spirit & entertainment they have given. Like a professional publication devoted to the same ideals in the Reading enjoyment of our favorite authors, a science fiction fanzine adds extra zest and appeal to our pastime. It gives us a better understanding of our fellow fans, helping us to know them, and also to know our favorite authors & authoresses. This publication is devoted to the furtherment of stfandom & stfiction, especially in these trying times -- when it might become so near to extinction. But we at the home front will carry on, and bring stfandom victorious-stronger than ever, after the fighting is all over. To the many fans who have been inducted into the Armed forces of these United States & of the British Empire, this publication is dedicated -- and it will ever help and support worthy causes that might in any way benefit these fighting men, our own S-F friends and acquaintances. So, it is with a deep appreciation of your interest taken at this stage, that I do close, and without further ado present this - the First Volume - First Number of the fanzine. "SALUTE!" Sincerely yours, [Signed John M. Cunningham] John M. Cunningham Editor in Chief [Image of a rocket.]
