The University of Iowa Iowa City, Iowa 52242 Special Support Services Educational Opportunities Program 310 Calvin Hall (319) 353-7179 JOB ANNOUNCEMENT COORDINATOR OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT PROGRAMS Basic Function: To develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate general counseling and academic advising, orientation, and academic support workshops, programs, and services for the Office of Special Support Services. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities To serve as the Office of Special Support Services representative in Academic Advising Center in an advising and counseling capacity. To evaluate the admissions profiles of incoming Special Support Services undergraduate and graduate students and assist in the planning of University of Iowa first-year course selection. To assist students in understanding degree programs and curricula, and to assist in the coordination of career and academic objectives. To serve as liaison to faculty, advisors of Special Support Services students, and the Associate Deans of the College of Liberal Arts, Engineering, Education, Business, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Medicine in an academic advocacy capacity. To chair meetings of the Special Support Services Academic Review Committee. To plan and implement orientation programs for freshmen, transfer, and graduate students. To coordinate pre-registration and registration activities for the Office of Special Support Services. To coordinate the Peer Counseling Program. Have close coordination with the Academic Development Specialist, Career Development Specialist, Academic and Career Counselor and Student Advisor in New Dimensions in Learning in providing academic support programs and services to students, e.g., study skills workshops, information processing workshops. Supervision Exercised: Functional and administrative supervision is exercised over support staff.
