education , the Vietnam war, or whether or not the women should date white males. I am reminded of the individuals who devoted every moment of their lives to the center so that it might realize its full potential at the expense of their own academic success - for many did not graduate because of their political dedication to institutionalizing the center. I am reminded of names like Randy Terronez, Darlene Wind, Arturo Ramirez, Gene Rave, Consuelo Garcia, Robin Youngbear, Eddie Ildefonso, Mary and David Solis, Daria Garcia, Jonathan Buffalo and so many others who are now the role models that we so longed for in the early 1970's. I am reminded of the community leaders like Juan Cadena, Ernesto Rodrigue, Sister Irene Munoz, Sister Molly Munoz, Mary Campos, Miguel Teran, Perry Ramirez, Ila Plascencia, the Wanatee, Cervantes and Youngbear families who came at a moment's notice to support us. I am reminded of Maria Martinez surrogate mother who nurtured and inspired us to assume responsibility to give back to our communities by working with her to establish the hospital interpreters program at Iowa. I was reminded that as numbers grew their was a need for new organizations that we now know as CHALE, AISA, Latinos Student 4
