When they say... He told me that he never heard of this man and that some of his facts he had written were vague. He urged me to go to the library to look up the word Chicano from a dictionary called Diccionario de Mexicanismos by F. J. Santamaria. Unfortunately the answer was not there either. When I talked to Dr. Hale again, he told me that the word Chicano comes from many definitions, but that the one coming from Mr. Aguilar is too vague to be considered a definition especially from a paper such as [[underline]]The Educator[[end underline]]. Mr. Aguilar went on to talk about the Aztlan theory, that Mexican radicals believe that California and the Southwest in general is the ancient mythical empire of the Mexican people. Aztlan is totally false according to Mr. Aguilar. "No one knows where Aztlan was." He Added it was something like the long lost Atlantis in comparison to this Mexican Folklore. Is it folklore that Califrnia was stolen from the Mexicans? Is it a myth that the lands acquired by the United States were stolen from the Indians and the treaties that they could not keep were broken? Is it just an ancient mythical idea that all men were created equal? Is Mr. Aguilar a Myth? To many people of Mexican descent Aztlan is where you want to be. I found that by reading this sort of "article" you get a whole new look at what the twisted mind could cook up to knock down the Chicano Movement. [insert] Support Lettuce Boycott Foul-Mouthed, Filthy-Minded,... No arrest were made from the "incident" since the local law officials had nothing to press charges on. The Brown Berets truthfully believe they have the right to take all of California for their own according to [[underline]]The Educator[[end underline]]. They feel they have a right to take the lands that once belonged to Mexico. To acheive this end, they apparently will work with any group to disrupt the "Establishment." They are seen in school conffrontations all the way from junior high to college. They march in picketlines for Chavez. They join the Chavez boycotters at every possible opportunity. They spearheaded the Chicano Moratorium Days which have caused a score of deaths in the Lost Angeles area. Just from reading all this information, one would think that all Chicanos are war-mongers and trouble makers. To set the record straight if it was not for some of the stupid people who ran the so-called law agencies in the southwest, there would not be a need for the Brown Berets. But so long as the police officials keep harrassing Chicanos and calling them no good Mexican S.O.B's---VIVA LA RAZA!!!!!!!!!!!! BUY UNION GRAPES ONLY! 2
