2 HUELGA STATE BOYCOTT MEETING The Iowa Lettuce Boycott meeting in Muscatine, Iowa, was the largest meeting to date. Volunteers were from nine cities in Iowa. Represented were Iowa City, Muscatine, Dubuque, Waterloo, Grinnel, Marion, Burlington, Eldora, and Galesburg, Illinois. The Quad-Cities from Iowa and Illinois were also represented. A plea was made to continue to push the pledge and inform the public of the repressive legislation against the Farm Workers. The meeting was conducted by Jim Conway; Olando Valadez was unable to attend. (state chairman of the lettuce boycott) The next meeting will be held in Davenport, Iowa on November 18. The movie Viva La Causa will be shown. LETTUCE BOYCOTT AT MANKATO STATE Alberto Olvera Craig Waldron, graduate student at Mankato State (Minnesota), is in the process of organizing a student support committee for the lettuce boycott. Although the committee is still small in membership, they have been successful in generating interest and support in the Minnesota town. JIM CONWAY Jim Conway, Quad-Cities organizer for the lettuce boycott, is being placed in the Chicago office. We are sorry to lose such a hard worker in Iowa, but La Causa needs him in Chicago. The Iowa City Boycott Committee STUDENT SENATE PASSES RESOLUTION The Student Senate of the University of Iowa passed a resolution September 13 urging all university food services to refrain from buying and serving the boycotted iceberg head lettuce. The measure was presented by the United Farm Workers Student Support Committee and included an approval of the letter writing campaign to the University dining halls and food service.
