8 NOTICIAS *** NEWS IN BRIEF ELECTED*** Darlene Wind was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Chicano Indian-American Student Union at the meeting held on September 25, 1973. This election fills the vacancy left by the departure of James Pushetonequa. Jim is presently attending another college. We would like to wish Darlene the best. Push on. CHICANO-INDIO CULTURAL CENTER*** The Chicano Indian-American Cultural Center/Student Union will no longer be located at 115 N. Clinton. The house has been rewarded with a new and historical prize: Demolition. However, do not dispair. We have a new place and we are scheduled to move in within two weeks, datewise, that would be around October 18th. The Chicano-Indio Cultural Center/Student Union will be located at 308 Melrose. Depending on which way you are looking at it, you could say that it is on the other side of the river, or behind Slater Hall, [[underline]]or[[end underline]] situated right on the corner of Melrose and Byington Road. Confusing? We are confident that all aware Chicano and Indian students will find the place and it shall be our homeland, nation, as was our house on Clinton St. However, the move is not anticipated to be as smooth and simple as expected, for there will be some necessary paint (brown and red) job to be made on the new house. "a 'lante. * C/S * [emblem] CUANTOS SOMOS ***** We believe that it is time we became aware or concerned with how many of our people are on campus. With that in mind, we are informed that approximately 25 new Chicano and Indian Students have joined our ranks. Nuestras filas. That means we are about 80 Raza strong. This also means that there are many more projects that we should undertake. One of our major projects should be recruitment, so that this campus will no longer exclude our Chicano and Indian people. We will have to enter into our barrios, our pueblos here in Iowa with a spirit of unity in order to bring our Raza to the University. With more people, we will have much more to offer, the old, young and pintos in the prisons of dejection and bring liberation to it's final conclusion. This much we should have to offer. Our strength is our UNION, our ideas of a life for change and growth. La fuerza es la union. We welcome all the new students and we share with them our collective experiences.
