13 [emblem] There comes a time when all must rise to claim their rights. In a half a century the women, the blacks have risen to claim what is rightfully theirs. Presently, the Chicanos, Campesinos and the Native Americans are on their quest for justice. Let us hope that these movements will continue and succeed. LA RAZA UNIDA DE ILLINOIS JAN. 18-20. La Raza Unida De Illinois had a conference to emphasize the problems of the Mexicano Worker without documents in this country. Also to focus attention on the MIGRA or the brutal abuses that the IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT has perpetuated against the Chicano and the Mexicano communities throughout the barrios in Aztlan and the Midwest. Over three hundred attended the 3-day conference which was held in the heart of the Chicano Community of Chicago. Bert Corona, head of CASA, Los Angeles, Atzlan, was the main speaker along with Mario Cantu of Ruben Salazar, Centro Cultural, San Antonio, Tejas, Aztlan. There were people, Chicanos, Boricaus and other third world people from the Midwest and other parts of the country. The Chicano Indian Center provided the transportation for 13 people,from Here of Iowa City to Chicago, which made it possible to attend. CASA. C.A.S.A. The Second Annual National Conference for Fair Immigration Laws and Practices will be held March 8th, 9th, and 10th at East Lost Angeles College--5357 East Brooklyn Ave. Los Angeles, Aztlan. The Chicano Indian-American Student Union at the University of Iowa is planning to have a CHICANO CONFERENCE this April. Plans are in the making so that all the workshops and other expositions come out well and the Chicanos attending have enough time to attend as many of this activities as possible. The main speaker of the conference will be RODOLFO CORKY GONZALES, head of the Crusade of Justice in Denver, Colorado Aztlan. It is being planned that he will be here at Iowa City for a day and a half. Corky Gonzales is one of the leading best known Chicano leaders of the Movimiento. Other speakers will include Salomon Flores speaking in the Bilingual and Bicultural Education Workshop. Herminio Rios who will head the Chicano Lit. Workshop. George Garcia, Civil Rights. Latino Women and Olga Villa will head the Chicana Workshop. Ricardo Parra will be speaking on the origin of Chicano Migration. Other speakers will be attending also. There will be also TEATRO, general good feeling of HERMANDAD and mas. More detail will be forth coming in our next issue of LABERINTO. Do not forget that our new address is 308 Melrose Avenue. CHALE BRANDS UNIVERSITY OF IOWA COLLEGE OF LAW: RACIST The Chicano Association For Legal Education, CHALE, has protested the RACIST practices of the Retention Committee at the Iowa Law School. A Chicana law student was told to leave the Law School by the Retention Committee about two weeks ago. Through an investigation, CHALE had found may irregularities in the petition process. Many faculty members verbally insulted and attacked this student as they requested she leave the school. The expulsion marks an end to this students legal career since no other law school will allow one to enroll and complete one's education after one has been flunked out of any other school. CHALE will fight this racist policy as it is practice on Chicano law students. TODO POR LA RAZA......
