3 EL MANIFESTO DEL TEATRO NACIONAL DE ATZLAN********* TENAZ ********* El Teatro Chicano was born of the social struggle of la Raza; given birth by the trabajadores who remain trabajadores. Los Trabajadores Del Teatro Nacional de Aztlan are committed to a way of Life/Struggle ayudandole a la gente a entender el porque de us problemsas sociales, individuales and to search for solutions. La organizacion de TENAZ, which will work with all oppressed peoples, must develop a humane revolutionary alternative to commercial theatre and mass media. It is also necessary that we work and unite with all theatres struggling for libearation donde quiera, particularmente en Latino-america. It should serve as a tool in the Live/Struggle of la Raza by developing Teatros as community organizations. El Teatro debe ir al pueblo y no el pueblo a Teatro. El Cuarto Festival de Teatros Chicanos en San Jose, Califas en dia 24 de Junio de 1973. [emblem] EL TEATRO ZAPATISTA ......IOWA CITY. This last month have been very busy times for the TEATRO ZAPATISTA. Last March 18th the Teatro traveled to Nembraska to give a performance at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. During the evening the Teatro performed for la Raza de Council Bluffs community. The next performance of el Teatro Zapatista was on March 21st. for the Keyhole Committee. During this ocassion, the Teatro performed for the Chicano and Black High School Students. The Teatro performed some actos so that the Chicano students can see what the Teatro is all about. Some of the students were impressed at the ability of the Teatro to portray the oppression that so many people tried to deny instead of making a effort to combat the eradicate it. During the month of April the Teatro performed 3 times. Padres and another time in Muscatine Iowa. The performance in Muscatine was primarely as a sensitivity session for the power structure that was present at the time that the Teatro performed. This would enable the people in Muscatine to see that the Chicano is more human and they, the power structure do not add anything to the needs of the Chicano Community other than the exploitation by the pigs and other racist in the community. The Teatro also performed in Devenport for the high school students. The Teatro will be performing later this month for the Keyhole Committee and finally but not the last time, during the Chicano 74' Conference here in the Iowa City. ******* ****** ****** MITO...CHICANO AND THE FIRST MIDWEST TEATRO FESTIVAL.....At Chicago. The first Midwest Teatro Festival was held in Chicago during the first week of April. The Midwest members of TENAZ, MITO were the organizers of the festival. This event, no doubt, will be recorded as a significant and important event for the sole purpose that the Teatros Chicanos are of age and can now proceed with a stronger conviction that they do represent the people and is their duty to educate and create a trully revolutionary Teatro. All comments of the festival have been of support. That is, that the Teatros in the midwest, like some in particular, a good example
