3 CHALE [emblem] The Director of Admissions has announced that the University of Iowa College of Law will fund a trip by a CHALE member to recruit students. Plans call for Austin, San Antonio and Huston to be visited. The folling colleges and universities will be contacted by the CHALE representative: University of Texas at Austin, St. Edwards University, St. Mary's University, Incarnate Word College, Our Lady of the Lakes, University of Huston, and others. This year's recruiting is emphasizing Chicano women. Law school statistics revealed last year that of 500 spanish sur-named law students there were 90 women. The need for Chicano women lawyers is acute. The University of Iowa hopes to improve these conditions. The Chicano Association for Legal Education has an office at the Law School. Rocha ************ Los Bailadores Zapatistas Los Bailadores Zapatistas originated under one of last year's events, Parents' Day. The dance group met once a week for at least an hour. Various dances were taught by last year's director, Rosa Higareda. The dances included "La Revolucion" as well as a few others. The list of dances will be increased by a few traditional cumbias from Colombia as well as other traditional dances. (next column) Any active member of the Chicano-Indian House may participate in the dance troupe and are encouraged to do so. Dance practice is scheduled for every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. unless otherwise designated. The date, place, and time for election of this years Business Director of the dance group will be posted. The results of the election will be printed in the next issue of El Laberinto. The primary duty of the director is to be the resource person for possible performance engagements of the dance troupe. Los Bailadores won't be performing outside the University of Iowa before December 1st. Ildefonso ************** INDIAN CONFERENCE An Indian Conference is being planned by the Chicano Indian American Student Union for early next semester. The dates January 20 through 25 have tentatively been decided upon. The committee planning the confernce, consisting of university and area Indians are not sure of the emphasis they are working toward, however Vine Deloria has been suggested as a main speaker. Redbone has also been named as possible participants. The University of Iowa Lecture Series has indicated some interest in helping to sponsor Deloria as a possible lecturer. The committee does not want to limit the scope of this conference. Indians of all age groups and from all the country are the target of this conference.
